Our Timeline

The Pioneering Work of with YOU (formerly Edinvar, Edinvar Community Care and Places for People Scotland Care & Support).

1981

In partnership with Edinburgh Council for Single Homeless, we opened the first Stopover emergency accommodation for young people.

1982

We set up a housing project which allowed severely disabled people to live independently with technological aids.

1985

We commissioned Scotland’s first mainstream barrier free housing development and launched a new design standard.

1992

We published Britain’s first barrier free design guide.

1995

We were one of five organisations that constituted the Person Centred Planning Consortium funded by the Scottish Office to promote person centred planning nationally.

1996

St Leonard’s was opened in the Newington area of Edinburgh, a pioneering mixed community with a SMART home and a community care resource centre. The SMART home started as a demonstration project working in tandem with The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF). It was the first such initiative in the UK.

2006

We developed the Health and Social Care Academy in partnership with NHS Lothian. This trained people to work in the health and social care sector.

2010

We launch our first Creative Arts Event – Gaun Yersel in partnership with Pilton Video and Jenna Watt, freelance Director.

2011

We held the premieres of our two films and a play – Zombie or not Zombie? Shooting Zombies and Me, You, We.

2012

We developed the Being Me service which is a model of support designed to re-shape care delivery within care homes.

2013

Working in partnership with 2001 Cannes Short Film award winning director, Irvine Allan and acclaimed playwright Ronan O’Donnell we premiered The Wayward Wind. This was made in collaboration with older people, Queen Margaret University, Castle Rock Edinvar, Gowrie Care and pupils from Holyrood High School.

2015

We developed You’re Never too Old… a programme for older people based in East Craigs. It is supported by a paid member of staff, local volunteers and volunteers from the Corstorphine Rotary Club.

2017

Working with Edinburgh College of Art and MainStreet Consultancy we developed new branding and implemented our transition plan to spinout of the Places for People Group to become with YOU

2018

1st April 2018 Places for People Scotland Care & Support officially become an independent, Scottish charity called with YOU.
