Josie’s Story

Josie

I like working with children and I would like to find a job to do this. I wanted to gain some experience and managed to get a work placement set up at a local primary school

I went there every day Monday to Friday. I started work at 2.30 in the afternoon and finished 5.45pm every day, except on Fridays when I started at 11.30 in the morning and finished at 5.45pm. Fridays were the longest days but I enjoyed it.

I worked at the Children’s After School Club. Kids were 5 to 12 years old there. We did some arts and crafts, we went to Gorgie Farm, to the community park or the school play park and played lots of games.

My plan for the future is to look for a job working with children in a nursery or in an after school club as this would be my dream job. I am getting advice from the Job Centre to find a job like this.

When I was there, I had great fun and I enjoyed working there. On my last day the children told me that they liked me very much and they were sad that I was leaving. They made me a card and bought me a box of sweets. I still have the card, but I ate the sweets. I miss the kids I worked with very much. I hope to get a similar job working with children again.

During my placement I also went to training to Direct Partners on every Monday which taught me how to look for a job and how to do first aid. I gained a certificate for this training. My plan for the future is to look for a job working with children in a nursery or in an after school club as this would be my dream job.
