Peter’s Story

Before the referendum I was really hoping for an Independent Scotland. I would talk to my support worker about this a lot. I was disappointed we did not get independence, however it was arranged for me to attend the First Minister’s Question Time and to meet Nicola Sturgeon.

I was supported to go to the Parliament and to the public gallery where we watched the debate. I thought it was interesting, and we saw Alex Salmond there.

We went for lunch in the parliament café, then went to meet Nicola Sturgeon. I felt it exciting to see her in real life, right in front of me. I asked her what it was like to be the First Minister, she said it was like a whirlwind and she had very big boots to fill.

I told her I went to the parliament café, but the tomato soup was too spicy, she said she would let them know about this.

I asked her about her hobbies, she said she likes cycling and reading. I asked her what her favourite TV programmes were, she said when she had time she likes the soaps, especially River City- she told me she had met some of the cast. I told Nicola that I went to Venture Scotland and was at the awards ceremony. Nicola told me I would make a very good interviewer.

We took a couple of photographs of Nicola and myself, then she introduced me to some of her staff.  I really enjoyed my day, I enjoyed meeting Nicola but I never want to meet David Cameron.
